EKN recognized as Leader in Trade for Sustainability
Among the worlds' export credit agencies Swedish EKN has been recognized by GTR as Leader in Trade for Sustainability. The award is a testament to the export credit agency’s sustainability achievements throughout the course of 2020.
“Swedish companies hold a prominent position in meeting global demand for technology for the transition to fossil-free industry. For many years, the Swedish export credit system has contributed to their long-term competitiveness. We are committed to being a positive force in the transition and are very proud to receive this award,” says Anna-Karin Jatko, General Director, EKN.
In addition to strong sustainability requirements for a project to be eligible for EKN support, EKN is committed to climate transition in line with the Paris Agreement. This means the development of green products and further support to transition projects. In 2020, EKN also decided to cease to guarantee exports for new oil and gas extraction projects as well as the entire coal value chain – extraction, transportation and coal-fired power plants.
Together with other countries' export credit agencies, EKN’s ambition is to adapt and align OECD regulations with the intentions of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
