Amadeus Pulp Mill, Brazil
The Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN) is considering a guarantee for financing of equipment and services to the the Brazilian company LD Celulose S.A. (LDC)’s pulp project Amadeus located in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
EKN is considering to reinsure* financing to the project.
The project comprises construction and operation of a mill with capacity to produce 540,000 tonnes of so-called dissolving pulp per year. The project involves supporting infrastructure for the mill and the raw material will be sourced from a total of 70,000 hectares of Eucalypt plantations certified under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
Amadeus project has a preliminary classification as a category A-project. The key potential environmental and social and impacts of the pulp mill project relate to labour and working conditions; resource efficiency and pollution; community health and safety; and sustainable sourcing. Download the documentThe information was published on EKN's website www.ekn.se on the 26th of May 2020. Comments on the project can be made within 30 days. This procedure is in accordance with the OECD Recommendation on Common Approaches for ECAs.
*In the case of reinsurance, EKN bases its environmental and social assessment on the review previously performed by the export credit institution that applies for reinsurance with EKN. This export credit institution has previously published MSKB projects in these with the OECD's recommendation.
