EKN is considering providing guarantees for the Reko Diq project in Pakistan. The project involves the construction and operation of a new copper and gold mine, Reko Diq. The mine is located near Nok Kundi in Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
The project entails the development and operation of an open-pit copper and gold mine near Nok Kundi in Balochistan. While the primary objective is copper production, the project will also include infrastructure such as a power plant, railway, and port.
EKN has provisionally classified the project as Category A. The potential social and environmental impacts are primarily related to biodiversity, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, land and water impacts, and working conditions. EKN conducts Environmental and Social (E&S) due diligence of the project based on the existing ESIA. EKN is engaged in close dialogue with involved parties to ensure that risks are managed in line with international standards.
