Power transmission, Angola
EKN is considering a guarantee for the financing of equipment for RNT – the National Electricity Transmission Network – as part of the "Gove-Chipindo-Cuvango-Jamba Transmission Line Project," which concerns power transmission in southern Angola.
The project involves the construction of a 130 km, 220 kV high-voltage transmission network extending from Gove to Cuvango, and further to Chipindo and Jamba. It includes transmission lines, substations, distribution lines, as well as the electrification of residential areas and public lighting. In the communities of Chipindo, Cuvango, and Jamba, approximately 3,000 households will gain access to electricity.
EKN has provisionally classified the project as Category A. The potential social and environmental impacts primarily relate to land acquisition and resettlement, working conditions, health and safety for nearby communities, biodiversity, and impacts on land and water. The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the project can be found at the following web link:
EKN conducts Environmental and Social (E&S) due diligence of the project based on the existing ESIA. EKN is engaged in close dialogue with involved parties to ensure that risks are managed in line with international standards.
The information was published on EKN's website www.ekn.se on February 21st, 2025. Comments on the project can be made within at least 30 days to info@ekn.se. This procedure is in accordance with the OECD Recommendation on Common Approaches for Export Credit Agencies (ECAs), the so-called “Common Approaches”.
