The Swedish Export Credit Agency (EKN) is considering a guarantee for financing of equipment to the company Shotton Mill Ltd, a subsidiary of Modern Karton Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., for the expansion and operation of Shotton Mill.
The project involves the conversion and expansion of a previous newsprint mill into a containerboard and tissue manufacturing facility together with a combined heat and power (CHP) plant, located in an existing industrial zone in Flintshire, North Wales, United Kingdom.
EKN has made a preliminary classification of the project as category A and conducts an environmental and social (E&S) due diligence of the project. The project’s preliminary key environmental and social risks relate to legacy contamination of soils as well as biodiversity since the project is in the vicinity of a number of sensitive areas.
